Dr. Sarah delos Reyes runs a modest clinic at the Dr. Fe Del Mundo Medical Center in Quezon City. Her partner in practice is no other than her mother, who has 40 years worth of hospital and clinic experience under her belt. Doc Sarah seems to be following her mother’s footsteps: she is an alumna of UST-Medicine, and a graduate degree holder from the University of the Philippines. She also spent time at the National Skin Center in Singapore, one of the leading dermatology hospitals in the world.
Needless to say, you’re in good hands when it comes to Doc Sarah. But she believes that it’s not just her skills that encourage her customers to come back to her again and again. It’s the personal touch that has her patients hooked. She maps out the procedures that are most effective depending on the patient’s skin situation, and chooses the cost-efficient way for them.
According to the good doctor, her most popular service lately has been the Skin Expert Oxygen Facial. Those who undergo this procedure can expect to get rid of acne and fine lines, ending up with a brighter and better skin. The secret is in the botanical oxygenized water. Her patients usually sign up for four to six sessions, with each session taking 20 to 30 minutes. They come in once a week or every two weeks.
The facial’s active ingredients include aloe vera, peptides, and fruit acid, which not only helps control the excessive oil on the skin, but also helps neutralize fine lines and pigmented skin tone. The cost ranges from PhP1,000 to PhP1,500 – a competitive price among other facial services.
Doc Sarah said her facial provides a visible difference, which is even more enhanced when combined with other modalities like Photodynamic (PDT) Treatment Mask, as well as Image by Laser (IBL) for skin rejuvenation.
Her patients hail from many different generations – some even as young as 11 years old! It’s not surprising considering that puberty is perhaps the most frightening time for our skin, and some of us still get the occasional nightmare about JS Prom being ruined by that one pesky pimple.
Doc Sarah wants to give her patients peace of mind from all the skin problems that haunt them. She said seeing her patients’ increased confidence is the most rewarding part of her job, especially with her young customers. If at first they stepped into her clinic with hesitation and embarrassment, most of their acne-ridden faces covered by bangs, they return with smiles upon seeing the improvement. They used to avoid eye contact with Doc, but after a few sessions, they started to open up to her about their skin problems and consulted her on what can be done further. It is that giving people higher self-esteem and a better quality of life that inspires Dr. Sarah and pushes her to be the best.
But she did say that facials alone are not enough. Nothing a doctor says will work if the patients themselves didn’t practice good skin habits.
Her best advice: Sunblock always and forever. The best kinds are non-comedogenic, which don’t clog the pores and are typically oil-free.
There are also the proper cleansing rituals. Never forget to clean your skin every morning and night. Finally, the earlier you take care of your skin, the better. Doc Sarah recommends that a even tweeners as young as 13 years old should visit the derma for skin correction and maintenance.
